Jonah Kim, Cello
GRAMMY®-winning artist Jonah Kim made his solo debut with Wolfgang Sawallisch and The Philadelphia Orchestra in 2003. Kim has since performed on the world’s most prestigious stages.
Also highly sought-after as a chamber musician Jonah Kim has collaborated with PBS television show host Scott Yoo, Van Cliburn Competition winner Jon Nakamatsu, Elmar Oliveira (first American to win the Tchaikovsky Concours), Chee-Yun Kim (you may know from her appearance on Curb Your Enthusiasm), and long time friend and global piano sensation, Yuja Wang. He has also worked with leading members of world-class ensembles such as Orpheus, New Century, and the Guarneri and Tokyo Quartets.
Kim trained at The Juilliard School and the Curtis Institute of Music among other meccas of music and considers Casals, Starker, Perlman and the Allman Brothers Band to be his biggest musical influences. Kim likes to pair either his 1845 J.B. Vuillaume cello or his 2016 Haide Lin named “Stella”, with his favorite bow made in 1904 by Jules Fétique in Paris. Following the success of his 2020 album release of the Rachmaninoff and Barber cello sonatas with Queen Elizabeth Concours laureate Sean Kennard, Delos, "the great American label" is featuring the release of another solo album this coming Autumn - 2021.
